Event Recap: The Campfire 2025
Thursday, October 16, 2025
It was an ideal evening for a Campfire. The sky was clear, and the air was refreshing. However, the gathering was not for an ordinary campfire but for Christodora’s annual gala and celebration! This year, the event was especially significant as we honored Ted Elliman, the founder of the Manice Education Center (MEC), our flagship program in the Berkshires. Ted, a trained botanist, has lent his expertise and guidance to Christodora for many years. The botanical theme was reflected in naturalistic table arrangements by Molly Oliver Flowers, featuring asters and goldenrod—two of Ted’s favorite flowers. The floral motif extended throughout the event, with original artwork by Christodora board member Genevieve Goelet displayed on table cards and in the digital journal. As guests arrived, excitement and joy radiated. It promised to be a memorable night!
The program began with an interview featuring two students sharing their experiences with Christodora and offering advice to new students. Following this, Executive Director Salma Choudury-Muro awarded the Mighty Oak Award to Perkins Coie, LLP, and our newest board member, Brian Turoff. Perkins Coie has provided pro bono legal support to Christodora over the years, and this award was our way of expressing gratitude. Next, the Spirit of Christodora Award was presented to Ted Elliman, with a heartfelt speech introduced by Board President Pamela Manice. The evening concluded with the final award given to Norval Soleyn, one of our first outdoor educators at MEC in 1982.
The evening concluded with an exciting paddle raise that engaged everyone in the room. Overall, it was a fantastic night of community and connection, thanks to the generosity of many friends and supporters.
